D&D Encounters Season 3 is set in the Nentir Vale and is called Keep on the Borderlands: Season of Serpents. This is a reimagining of the classic D&D adventure, updated for 4th Edition. The season runs 20 weeks from September 22 – February 2, and is broken into five chapters of four encounters each. Pregenerated characters are available, or players can create their own 1st-level characters using the Red Box and Heroes of the Fallen Lands. Characters will reach 3rd level by the end of the season.
We’ve been promised a very cool story for season 3, something more than a typical dungeon-delve-style adventure. There will be interesting NPCs, good opportunities for role-playing, and many recurring characters. There are big surprises in the adventure, and hints of a terrible foe behind the plot threatening the Nentir Vale.
Once again, we’ll have three tables and three DMs every Wednesday night. Sign-up sheets for the first session will be at the counter on September 15.
]]>Grab a friend and get ready to celebrate the launch of the new D&D Gamma World Boxed Set. Mutate a brave new hero and be ready to take on just about anything! Experience the return of an old classic in a new play experience using the D&D 4th Edition rules engine! The D&D Gamma World game is a fast, furious romp through a post-apocalyptic Earth where mutant heroes face-off against killer robots, alien weirdness, and strange irradiated creatures.
Gamma World Game Day: Trouble in Freesboro
It’s shocking how the Big Mistake completely obliterated some places while others got by relatively unscathed. Freesboro falls into the latter camp, but if Genghis Tangh has his way, life will never be the same for the mutants of Gamma Terra. Delve into the origins of the Big Mistake as you take on Tangh and his forces! Pick up a D&D Gamma World Boxed Set, a few booster packs of power cards, and create your own characters in an exciting new Game Day experience! A D&D Gamma World Game Day adventure designed for 4-6 characters of 1st level.
An exclusive 4-hour adventure called Trouble in Freesboro, written by Robert Schwalb, includes an online feature to the game that if accessed during game play can provide the players with a valuable clue. Players purchase 2 D&D Gamma World booster packs and create their own characters when they arrive at a participating location to play. DMs are required to have a copy of the D&D Gamma World Boxed Set and the adventure materials, available prior to the event day in the game day kit, to prepare to run their game. In addition to a poster map and the adventure, the game day kit also contains 2 different D&D Gamma World cards, available nowhere else, and awarded to players and DMs just for participating!
We’ll have at least two tables running, starting at 1:00 on Saturday, October 23.
]]>Come celebrate the release of the new D&D Essentials line of products and the new Dungeons & Dragons Fantasy Roleplaying Game with a classic-style adventure and a retro game experience!
Sunderpeak Temple
Long a bastion of good on the edges of the wilderness, Sunderpeak Temple has succumbed to an unknown threat. You have been tasked to journey to the site of the temple and find out what has befallen its residents, as the priests are needed to destroy an enchanted skill imbued with necromantic magic. Will you face down the dark denizens that dwell within and learn the truth of the temple’s fate? A Dungeons & Dragons adventure designed for 4-6 pregenerated characters of 2nd level.
We’re going to have four DMs available for this event, meaning four tables and four times the fun! Considering the popularity of the D&D Encounters events, we recommend you sign up early to make sure you get a seat.
]]>Bring your friends and join in the fun as we celebrate the return of the beloved fan-favorite world Dark Sun, a campaign setting of harsh survival and savage enemies in a blasted land.
The Lost Cistern of Aravek
A remarkable device has been discovered in the wastes near the city-state of Tyr – a magical cistern created by a long-dead preserver named Aravek. You are charged to journey through the harsh desert lands, brave fierce monsters, and retrieve the cistern before your enemies can claim it for their own cruel master. Can you bring a font of live-giving water to a parched populace? Or will you succumb to dangers beyond the gates of Tyr? A Dark Sun adventure for 4-6 pregenerated 4th-level characters.

]]>If you haven’t heard the news, our D&D Encounters in-store play experience is taking off, and a new season begins on June 9. We started off with Undermountain, which is nearing its season finale in the next few weeks. Response to our new Wednesday D&D program has been overwhelming. Players from around the world are participating in a weekly in-store campaign that plays out in one-encounter sessions, taking one to two hours each. It’s a great way to play in a regular D&D game without straining your schedule.
For those who haven’t yet experienced D&D Encounters, love Dark Sun, or are veteran players wanting to continue their in-store play, you’ll want to mark June 9th as the day to come down to the store. That’s when we launch an exciting preview campaign of the Dark Sun campaign world! Return to the fan-favourite world of Athas, explore the savage environment and terrible dangers of a blasted land, and do it all months before the books are available.
This upcoming season, you’ll receive pregenerated characters to play for the duration of the 15-week campaign, which ends on September 15. Every five sessions of play equals one chapter in the story; you can take a short rest between sessions but can take an extended rest only after the chapter concludes. You’ll want to show up every week, because we have a compelling adventure in Fury of the Wastewalker. This adventure will take you all around the Tyr Region, giving you a classic Dark Sun feel of gritty survival and bold action. Here’s a little bit more on the adventure to whet your appetite:
Fury of the Wastewalker
On a trade road to the city-state of Tyr, a caravan is assaulted by a deadly obsidian shardstorm. The survivors are forced to band together and navigate the wastes to safety. But the force of nature that destroyed the caravan is under the malevolent control of the being known as the Wastewalker, who will stop at nothing to see the end of those that escaped his initial wrath. Can the heroes reach the Ringing Mountains before it’s too late?
Characters will be provided for this season, and will include all sorts of great previews of new races and other cool rules options that will appear in the Dark Sun Campaign Setting. The thri-kreen and mul are back—and they’re playable characters in this season! Every character also has one of the new theme options (like gladiator or wasteland nomad), which better define a character’s role in the setting. Since you’ll be playing these characters for the duration of the season, we’ve also given them great backgrounds and roleplaying hooks that help to integrate them into the story of the adventure.
We’ve got two GMs for this season – Kevin and Barry – but there are limited seats, so make sure to sign up, starting on Wednesday, June 2, to guarantee a place at the table.
]]>This coming Saturday, March 13, I’m going to be at Imagine Games from noon until about 4:00, answering questions and helping people create characters if they wish. I’ll even have my computer with the Character Builder there, so we can run any characters created through the Character Builder for an extra bonus of renown points. Extra points are also awarded if you create a character using a race, class, or feat from Player’s Handbook 3, which releases next week.
So, if you’re in Winnipeg, and you’re interested in D&D Encounters, come on down to the store on Saturday afternoon, and I’ll do my best to answer any questions you have. I’ll even help you get set up with a character.
Also, remember that there are limited slots available on Wednesday nights – and I have already had two people reserve seats at the table. If you want to make sure you don’t miss out, drop me a line here, or leave your name at the store. The adventure is designed for 5 players, but I can probably scale it up as high as 7 if required.
