Safety in the Exchange District
Posted by The Staff - 04/30/08
The Exchange District, in the past, had a bad reputation and unfortunately that reputation is still in the minds of some people.
In the last ten years, the area has become a clean, well-lit vibrant part of the city with wonderful restaurants, cafes and stores -like us! There are many artists who live and work in the area and more upscale condos are being renovated everyday. With the addition of Red River Downtown campus along with other technical training colleges and paramedic training (next door to us) more students and other soon-to-be professionals frequent the area. There is also the Exchange District Biz with Community Foot Patrols always watching.
No one can guarentee your safety. However, speaking as a woman who regularly walks in the Exchange either with a small child or alone at night, I have no more concerns here than I do anywhere else. At most I have been approached by panhandlers and the majority of them are polite and even apologetic.
So please come down to this Historic and beautiful part of the city. Don’t let old reputations prevent you from exploring and enjoying the Exchange District.
